A new-build home in North Devon, designed from the outset around a ground source heat pump, underfloor heating, solar PV and MVHR, specified together rather than added system by system as the build progressed.
Where a retrofit has to work around decisions already made, a new build gave us the chance to size the ground array, the underfloor heating, and the ventilation strategy against the house’s actual design from the start. The result is a home that generates its own heat from a stable ground temperature, distributes it through underfloor heating designed into the slab rather than retrofitted around existing pipework, and stays ventilated properly through an MVHR system rather than relying on trickle vents, all specified as one system rather than bought as separate products.
Since moving in, the home has been running on the system for over a year, long enough to see it through a full heating season rather than just an initial settling-in period.
